This summer FestEvents will have additional outdoor events scheduled throughout the week at Town Point Park. The additional events include Fountain Field Days, Finale Fridays, Crab Feast Fridays, Cinema Under the stars, AT&T Spring Fountain Fair, AT&T Cinco de Mayo, AT&T Summer Brew Fest, and Bubble & Blue Jeans. Wicked at Chrysler Hall

WICKED the musical is back in Norfolk until the 26th. The untold story of the witches of Oz has been called a “cultural phenomenon” and has broke box office records in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Toronto in the past.

WICKED begins performances today, March 7th, at 8:00pm at Chrysler Hall. Two and a half hours before every show a lottery for orchestra seats will be held at the box office. You have to show up with a valid id. Names will be placed in a lottery and will be drawn a half hour after for $25 orchestra seats.

ORPHÉE at the Harrison Opera House

Virginia Opera presents ORPHÉE at the Harrison Opera House. Philip Glass’ opera is described as an emotionally intriguing and psychological journey. It follows the script of Jean Cocteau’s 1949 film Orphée, which is a thriller that follows the psychological journey of the famous poet Orphée. Norfolk Grand Illumination Parade

The 2011 Grand Illumination Parade is this Saturday, November 19th. The parade starts at 7:00pm on Main Street, but there are plenty of activities for the whole family to enjoy throughout the day. From MacArthur on Ice (opens at 10 am) and the holiday gift shop/ face painting at the D’Art Center, there is something for everyone to enjoy! The expanded mortgage refinance program

The HARP program started in 2009. It helps homeowners refinance their mortgages at lower rates. They can bypass the usual requirement of having 20 percent equity in their home. Many borrowers were unable to take advantage of this program because they were too underwater, or owed more than their home was worth.

The program has been expanded and eligibility won’t be effected by how much a home’s value has declined. The program will also help by eliminating some fees for closing costs. The mortgage has to be owned or backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. They own about half of all mortgages in the U.S.

Hampton Roads in the Top 20 Healthiest Housing Markets

There has been some hopeful news abuzz about the housing market in our region in some local and national news sources. According to Builder Magazine, our area is slated to have home appreciation of 4.3% in the next year and a half. They’re predicting that home prices will stabalize this year and slightly increase over the next two. The main reason for the stability in our region is the jobs provided by the Norfolk Naval Station.

There are two outstanding fireworks displays to see this weekend. The first show is at Ocean View Beach Park tonight, July 1st from 6pm-10pm. There will be a fireworks display as well as music food and other fun!

The second celebration takes place Monday, July 4th from 5pm-10pm at Town Point Park and willalso include music, food & other fun with the fireworks display later that night.
